Date of Sale
March 2025. Newsletter subscribers will be notified of date/time and get to shop first!
All products will say “Sold Out” until I hide the shop page to enter inventory.
Will my selections be safe in my cart?
NO. I’m sorry to say that adding tubers to your cart will not keep them safe from someone else buying them. This platform does not support cart holds. The quickest to checkout gets the tubers. My best advice is to make multiple orders starting with the tubers you want the most.
Payment
Visa (credit & debit), MasterCard (credit & debit), Amex, Discover, Apple Pay. For faster checkout, it may help to create an account and store shipping and payment information. CA residents will be charged tax on tubers purchased at the rate of 7.25% as required by law. Humboldt County residents will be charged 7.75%.
Order cancellations
All purchases are final. We will not cancel or give refunds once orders are placed. We cannot add to, nor edit an existing order due to platform limitations. If we find during the fulfillment process that any tuber(s) meant for your order do not meet quality standards, the price of the tuber(s) in question will be refunded and we will try to notify you by email promptly.
shipping
We ship to all 50 states. April is shipping month! Details below.
All orders of dahlia tubers will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail. 1-4 tubers=$11 5-15 tubers=$20 16-30 tubers=$27. Orders larger than 30 tubers will be charged according to the box sizes & destination.
This is a pre-sale. We ship by USDA hardiness zones and will start shipping to West coast and South West states, followed by Southern states, then Western and Midwest states, ending with far North states and the upper East Coast. I will do my best to keep this page updated with where we are in the process.
Orders will be fulfilled in the order they are received, within each shipping zone. I will not ship early or out of turn. I am aware that planting times vary, and we will make every effort to get packages shipped as quickly as possible, but we are working around two full time jobs and doing the very best we can. I keep an eye on the weather and if I need to make a change based on an act of mother nature I will do so.
The shipping process will take several weeks to complete. Threatening emails regarding shipping times will not be tolerated. If you have a valid concern over the timeliness of your package, please do reach out with your order number and the name the order was placed under. We take your purchases very seriously and need you to trust that we dedicate every possible moment to get your package to you as soon as it’s safe, while also staying fair to turn. If you absolutely need dahlia tubers immediately, your local garden center is a great source.
Do you combine orders?
I will only combine shipping for multiple orders placed under the same name and directed to the same address.
Email alicia@bloomtideflowers.com and include the name and each order# to be combined.
Any excess shipping paid will be refunded at shipping time.
Important: If you don’t email me I will assume you don’t mind paying extra shipping and I won’t guarantee your orders will be combined.
Local Pick Up
For locals who would like to pick up their orders, you will shop as normal and choose the local pickup option at checkout. You will be contacted through email with dates, times, and instructions for pickup at our farm in McKinleyville. Local pickup is usually during the weekend, with the first offering being the second weekend in April. Please keep your eyes peeled for this email! You will not be refunded for failing to pick up your order. Due to the perishable nature of dahlia tubers, all local orders must be picked up by July 1st.
What should I expect?
We do not promise pretty tubers, nor tubers of a certain size. Tubers can be pinky or fist sized, smooth or wrinkly. Our prices do not reflect the physical beauty of a tuber. Keep in mind, dahlia tubers are perishable products that have matured several inches beneath earth’s soil amongst crawling critters, then yanked up, sawed apart, stored to the best of our ability, handled, and flown hundreds of miles. Our priority is to provide you the material to grow a healthy plant that will reward you with a bounty of beautiful blooms. We sell single divided tubers from dahlias grown on our farm, packed to the best of our ability. We do not resell dahlia clumps.
We do not pre-sprout or purposely wake tubers up prior to shipping. We take advantage of our mild, temperate climate and store our tubers without temperature controls. This means they wake up on their own time, which varies by variety. We only ship tubers that have visually been inspected and determined to have an eye. Some eyes are visible by daylight, and some have been verified by looking through a magnifying lamp. Some tubers have one eye and some have multiple. Eyes may recede or grow during the time they are packed and shipped. Some eyes might sprout and despite our care in handling, can still break off during the checking and packing, or shipping process. This is not a defect. Please remember, this is the tuberous root of a dahlia that is somewhere between a dormant stage, and waking up and growing, and while tubers of some varieties can be delicate and harder to deal with, they are actually pretty resilient.
A dormant tuber is not the same as a blind tuber. If you are concerned about any dormant tubers in your order, we’ll be happy to share our tips and tricks to safely waking them up. Just shoot us a email!
I placed an order, now what?
As orders are fulfilled and a shipping label gets printed, our system automatically notifies you by email of your tracking number. Please keep your eyes peeled for that number, and keep up with your package’s delivery date and time. We are not responsible for any tubers that are to be shipped through storms or to destinations where the temperatures are not ideal. Do not leave them to perish in your mailbox or freezing garage. Open your packed tubers immediately upon arrival!
You have 2 days from receipt of order to contact us with questions or concerns. Contact us through email, and include your order number in the subject line. If applicable, clear in-focus pictures and/or a short video detailing the source of your concern will be very helpful.
what about virus?
Our #1 priority is to grow healthy dahlias that will in turn, make tubers that will grow into healthy dahlias for you. We invest heavily into our soil health, text regularly with our beneficial insect guy (his name is Erik and he’s awesome), and sterilize our tools with 10% bleach solution in between each plant when cutting flowers and when digging and dividing. We also spot test with AGDIA test strips, pass our farm inspections by the Humboldt County Department of Agriculture (Hi Scott!), inspect plants constantly throughout the growing season, and aggressively cull plants that show signs of disease or poor performance.
We can take every precaution and follow every step in the book, but nature is going to nature and a plant that appeared virus free on our farm may show signs in your garden the next season, or even become infected upon sprouting and show symptoms soon after. We do appreciate feedback and hearing any performance issues you may experience, so please reach out to discuss any concerns you may have.
By purchasing our tubers you accept that virus is not 100% avoidable.
Do you guarantee your tubers?
All tubers are guaranteed to have at least one eye, even though they might not be visible at the time they are received. They have been checked multiple times, but keep in mind that eyes we saw when dividing might have receded by the time your tubers make it to you. Tubers are only guaranteed to have an eye and be healthy enough to grow. They aren’t guaranteed against poor growing practices, damage in the case you may pre-sprouting or using them to take cuttings, acts of mother nature, or anything else that goes wrong once they have left our hands.
If they do not grow and are found to be blind and the tuber is fully intact, you will receive a refund in the form of a Bloom Tide Gift Card for that tuber no earlier than Oct 1 2025, and no later than Oct 31 2025. Photos will be required.
We all have different experience levels growing dahlias, and we have no way of knowing yours when you reach out, so please understand that we will likely respond with questions to try to figure out the situation.
communication
Please communicate with us about your orders via email. It allows us to be so much more efficient when a trail of email history is in one location and important info has a less likely chance of getting overlooked. We intentionally wait to check our inbox when we can respond, usually on Fridays, and Sunday evenings. We generally do not respond to email messages during the week.
A note from Alicia:
This is a wild time to love and purchase dahlia tubers! I know firsthand the disappointment of losing a tuber, or two, three, four, or five that I really want, and I know that I don’t have enough of some that I offer for everyone who wants one. But I try. The dahlias I select and grow to sell are years in the making. I purposely hold back on many cultivars to increase my stock until I have what I feel, for our farm size, is a nice amount to go around.
This website has been created with the very best intentions to host a sale that is both successful for my business and for your gardens. I hope you can snag at least one treasure and that the process runs smoothly. When it comes to your shopping experience as well as your experience with our tubers, please don’t assume the worst. I ask for your patience and trust in the several years that we have been shipping dahlias across the US, and I promise that we work tirelessly and doing our best to provide a quality product.
By purchasing dahlia tubers from Bloom Tide, you acknowledge that you have read and accept these policies.
